APU Nordic Skiathon: 1,000 Kilometers In One Day!
Promoting Safety on the Trails and Roads for an Active and Healthy Lifestyle
When: Wednesday, June 10th
Route: Moose Loop | Start & Stop at APU
Time: Start at 8:30am
Online Pledge Form: https://apunordic.com/product/skiathlon-donation/
Help the APU Nordic Ski Center Elite Team reach their goal of rollerskiing 1,000 Kilometers In 1 Day! Each individual athlete is helping their team by asking for pledges from friends, family and the community. Each pledge of $50 = 1 Kilometer skied.
This day is for APU Nordic Elite Athletes to help bring awareness about rollerskiing and promote safety on the trails and roads of Anchorage in living an active and healthy lifestyle. It’s a day to remind drivers to watch out and drive safely while around roller skiers. Many cross-country skiers in Alaska enjoy rollerskiing and are out on the roads that we share with drivers.
Trail awareness and visibility is equally as important. Each Elite member will be wearing proper safety gear, high visibility clothing, helmets and other gear to showcase recommended protection in staying safe. Recommendations on rollerski safety rules and tips can be found here https://apunordic.com/roller-ski-safety-rules/
APU Nordic Ski Center will be bringing awareness about “Be Safe Be Seen” in our community. “Be Safe Be Seen” is a program developed by Colaska to bring awareness about being seen on the trails and roads to prevent accidents and injury.
We have adjusted this day to adhere to COVID-19 mandates. For the 1,000 Kilometers, the Elite Members will be showing proper COVID-19 social distancing. This skiathon marks the first time the team is officially back together following COVID-19 restrictions and mandates including Hannah Halvorsen. Hannah was hit by a car last October and has since been rehabbing at her home in Lake Tahoe. Hannah will be adjusting how she achieves her portion the Kilometers due to rehabilitation in Anchorage!
Each elite team member will track their progress while they roller ski and post photos of the Kilometers skied.
We invite the community to come out and cheer on our athletes. If you see an APU Nordic Elite Member on the trail, post a photo on Facebook or Instagram and tag APU Nordic Ski Center. Your photo could be picked as the lucky winner of an APU Nordic Ski Center Buff or High Visibility blink lights provided by our partner, ConocoPhillips Alaska!
We need your help to raise enough support to meet the 1,000 Kilometer goal. Support the team with your donation now to help the team ski 1,000 Kilometers and achieve their goal as a team!

Stay tuned for other things the APUNSC Elite Team will be up to this summer. We will be starting up APU Nordic Days of Giving, where the Elite team will be contributing community service throughout the summer towards things like healthy futures, trail clean ups and more. This is a way the Elite Team can contribute to help enhance our community through stewardship as a Thank You to the support from our community.
Tax-deductible contribution language during COVID
To encourage more charitable giving in 2020, the recently enacted government COVID-19 relief bill (the “CARES Act”) provides some tax relief for individual donors. If you take the standard deduction on your taxes, you may be able to claim a new ‘above-the-line’ deduction of up to $300 for cash donations to charitable nonprofits in 2020. There are also benefits to donors who itemize their taxes. Please consult your tax advisor for more information.
