Friends of APU Nordic Ski Center,
As we reflect on 2025, it has been a year of incredible achievements for APU Nordic Ski Center. One highlight in particular was the re-opening of Eagle Glacier. Now with the new Thomas Training Center, there is an opportunity to evolve and grow moving forward into the future. The summer training camps held on Eagle this past summer could not have come at a better time to prepare our skiers for this Olympic year. The facility has ignited new energy and excitement within our club, helping to inspire a new generation of skiers! Now, we look towards the future, with a deeper gratitude and understanding from where we have come from and those who have helped build our future.
From an athlete who’s helped to build APU’s future “APU Nordic Ski Center is without a doubt the organization that has shaped my life and identity more than any other. Coach Erik Flora and the APU team as a whole have provided a safe, consistent, ambitious environment to learn so many important life lessons, about both how to be the best athlete possible, and how to be a caring, inclusive community member and human being beyond the ski trails. APU allows its athletes and community members to be exactly who they are as we all get to unite to help push the needle forward for U.S. cross country skiing. I was lucky to have been an athlete on this team for 5 years, before stepping away from racing. During that time, I was able to coach with APU for 2 years, and then made the decision to make a comeback to racing and become an athlete again. Getting to travel this path has given me a greater appreciation for the depth and breadth of impact that APU has on our Alaskan community and beyond. I feel so thankful to be part of APU’s movement and vision for many years to come!” ~Hailey Swirbul
